EXTRA….EXTRA!!!  READ ALL ABOUT US!!!
Hi!  Allow us to introduce ourselves as well as what exactly Destination Imagination (DI) is all about.  We are Alicia, Jayla, Brandon, Ryan and Joshua, and we are Mission Viejo’s 4th grade DI, called The Fire Breathing Jack-O-Lanterns.   Our team manager is Mrs. Marie.  We started our team in October of 2011 and are still going!  We have worked very hard on our challenge, called Project Outreach-The World Canvas, which is a community service based project. We chose to help out expecting parents at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora, CO, by purchasing baby items, such as diapers, wipes, teddy bears, books and hygiene products. We were able to fundraise over $800 in monetary donations and helped 60 families. We raised money by having two donation drives at school and hosted one fundraiser at CiCi’s Pizza night.   We took first place in district completion, second place in state competition and are now headed to Global Finals in TN!!  DI is a non-profit organization that provides educational programs for students to learn and experience creativity, teamwork, and problem solving skills.  Every year, DI reaches 125,000 students across the US and over 30 countries.  Participants are tested to think on their feet, work together as a team and come up with solutions to problems, by using their creativity. (www.idodi.org)
We are one of 53 teams from the state of Colorado, who get to represent school/school district, our state and country and we are the first DI team ever to represent our school at Global Finals. You have probably seen our fundraiser fliers being sent home, which have invited you or will invite you to attend/participate in Backwards Day, Popsicle Fridays, Panda Express Night, Cici’s Night, YoCraze Night, The Twisted Penny, Spaghetti Dinner and more! These fundraisers are raising money for our trip to Global Finals, in Knoxville, TN, which will be held from May 22 to May 26. With your help and generosity, we have raised $ 5019.69 which will pay for our food and housing for five days.  We still need to raise money for travel expenses.  Our goal is to raise a total of $10,000.  Any dollar amount fundraised exceeding this amount will go toward Mission Viejo’s DI Program.
We invite you to check our fundraising progress by looking at our pumpkin meter, located near the front office. This shows how much money we have raised so far. We would like to say THANK YOU so much for your outstanding support!  We feel honored to represent our school and are grateful to live in a community who supports us.  Thank you for your donations of time, labor, participating in our fundraising and of course your monetary donations.  We couldn’t have done this without your support!
We invite you to participate in the remaining fundraisers that we have planned.  Please read the back of this letter for more details. If you have any questions, please contact our team manager, Mrs. Marie at
720-886-8000.
